Pubs and Restaurants in Somerset

There are a wide variety of pubs and restaurants in Somerset to cater to every taste and occasion. There are many traditional country pubs serving up freshly cooked meals, many pride themselves on using locally grown produce and meat from local suppliers. You may want to enjoy a traditional English roast dinner on a Sunday. If you enjoy walking in the country then you could work up an appetite by trying one of the local pub walks and take in some of the beautiful Somerset scenery.

The Talbot Inn in the village of Mells, not far from Frome, is a wonderful example of a tradtional English country pub. The village itself is like a picture postcard full of historical buildings, including the 15th century church in whose graveyard is buried the famous writer and poet Siegfried Sassoon.



A trip to Somerset would not be complete without sampling the cider for which the county is famous. Most of the independent traditional country pubs also serve up a good selection of ales. Look out for local bands playing gigs at some of the larger pubs. In many of the pubs and retaurants in Somerset you can enjoy the ambiance of a real fire in the winter months and in the summer enjoy the many pub gardens that have wonderful views of the local countryside.

If you are spending time in one of the larger towns or cities you may like like to try one of the stylish wine bars, many of which serve up a variety of English and European food. Bath in particular has a wide variety of bars, pubs, and restaurants. The Hole in the Wall Restaurant serves traditional British aswell as European cuisine. A stylish restaurant, it also maintains a cosiness with soft lighting and a real fire in the winter months. Slightly futher afield you can enjoy locally grown food, prepared and cooked with a French influence at the acclaimed Moody Goose Restaurant at the Old Prior Hotel in Midsomer Norton.



If you enjoy Indian cuisine then the Eastern Eye in Bath is one of the most renouned Indian restaurants in the South-West. the restaurant has a most impressive Georgian interior complimented with warm colours.



Other towns such as Taunton, Yeovil, and Wells, also have a good selection of pubs and restaurants. However, almost every village has a local pub many of which serve very good value traditional meals. You may also want to look out on the menu for some of the other local delicacies including smoked eel, cider brandy, wild boar, and locally produced cheeses.

As you can see you will be spoilt for choice with the number and variety of all the pubs and restaurants in Somerset.
