The City of Wells is dominated by it's magnificient cathedral. Wells is the smallest city in England with a population of just 10,000. The cathedral dates back to 1180, the Chapter House, Vicar's Hall, the Cloisters and Vicar's Close date back form the 13th to the 15th centuries. The cathedral hosts many classical concerts throughout the year.

Another of the major attractions in Wells is the historical Bishop's Palace dating from the 13th century. The Palace is surrounded by a moat and is set among beautiful gardens. Wells is a thriving market town and there is a market held here every Wednesday and Saturday close to the entrance of the Bishop's Palace in the centre of the town.

Wells is set at the foot of the Mendip Hills. Stunning views across the levels can be enjoyed from the Ebbor Gorge Nature reserve in the Mendips. Another of the nearby attactions is Wookey Hole Caves. Here you can enjoy a guided tour through the fascinating limestone caves. Children will enjoy hearing about the legend of the "Witch of Wookey", and exploring the dinosaur themepark, and learning about the area's natural history. There is also an indoor playzone and old fashioned amusement arcade.

Another of Wells attractions is its proximity to the Bath and West Showground. This is the venue for a whole host of events ranging from agricultural shows and events, motorcycle, and rural craft shows, to horse trials and collectors fayres.

Wells has a good range of pubs and restaurants to choose from. It is also home to the Little Theatre which is the headquarters and performance venue of the Wells Operatic Society. It also stages plays and pantomimes throughout the year.

With the number of attractions in Wells and places to visit nearby you will be spoilt for choice. Wells is also conveniently situated for visiting the historical City of Bath and many other Somerset attractions
