Hotels and Guest Houses in Somerset

Hotels and Guest Houses in Somerset

There is a wide selection of hotels and guest houses in Somerset. Whether you are looking to stay in a genteel country house hotel, five-star luxury in Bath, or a family-run guest house in one of the traditional seaside resorts, Somerset has it all.

Somerset Tourist GuideThe distinction between hotels and guest houses can be rather blurred. Generally, guest houses are owned and managed day to day by the same people, often a couple who often also live on the premises. The difference between a guest house and a bed and breakfast establishment is that an evening meal is provided, however, this is always a point worth checking, as some B&B;’s call themselves guest houses but do not serve evening meals. Some guesthouses can also offer accommodation on a B&B; basis, with the option of an evening meal. Hotels generally have a larger number of rooms than guest houses and most are managed by a team of staff, the owner is not usually resident except in the case of smaller family-run country house hotels.

Some budget hotels offer accommodation on a room-only basis. Many of these are hotel chains found on the outskirts of the larger towns. Most hotels, however, have the option of an evening meal served in the hotel restaurant. Many larger hotels have very well-regarded restaurants which are also open to non-residents.

Hotels at the more luxurious end of the market offer room service and a porter service. Many larger hotels also have a swimming pool, sauna, or fitness suite. Most also have a licensed bar.

A number of pubs also provide accommodation, usually referred to as “Inns”. They provide very good value accommodation and most have a good menu to sample and a cozy bar to relax in afterward.
